Typically non operating and used to add style and increase natural light transoms span the width of the opening they top and can be placed above single or double doors and sidelites. Operable transoms have sashes that can be opened or closed to help regulate the temperature in a room when the door is closed. In the summer windows were opened at the front and the rear of the home to create airflow. Exterior transom windows often sell as part of an entire door system which makes them simpler to install and because they re manufactured as a single sealed unit they offer increased weather. Transoms are stationary sections of glass placed above an entry door and its sidelights.

With two styles available to choose from you can add design interest with a rectangular transom or elliptical transom. For single doors simply order a transom sash that is the same width as the door slab that will go underneath. So for a 2 8 door so would order a 2 8 transom.
